I offer a free initial phone consultation designed to determine an author's general editorial needs in relation to a given book project or proposal, in the space of a comfortable ten or fifteen minutes.
Subsequent consultations and other editorial services are then available to an author at the industry standard fee of seventy-five dollars an hour. For authors who want a manuscript that is ghostwritten, the hourly rate is one hundred dollars an hour (ghostwriting means there will be no mention of the writer, either on the cover of the book or in the book's acknowledgments).
Once work is under way, I can more accurately estimate the time involved, and will then switch from an hourly to a flat-fee rate, for each segment of the work at hand.
My goal is to explore ways of working within an author's budget, and there is usually a way to make the necessary editorial work financially feasible.
At the same time, authors generally realize that professional assistance is an investment. Weighing the costs and benefits -- whether it's an investment in professional goals, or in significant personal aspirations -- is a crucial preliminary step, one that moves them closer to book authorship and publication.
